There is nothing to opt out of.
No account, no sign-in, no analytics, no tracking, no crash reports — in the app on your computers or the one on your phone. Nothing about you is sent to Deskwire or to anyone else. The only conversation the software has is between your own phone and your own computers.
Last checked against the software on 2026-09-21. Checked again with every release we publish.
On your devices. Nowhere else.
| What | Where | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Your monitor setup and preferences | On each computer | Never sent anywhere |
| Which phones are allowed | On each computer | Kept as a one-way scrambled code, so a phone's actual key is never stored on the computer |
| Which computers are paired | On your phone | Excluded from cloud backup and phone-to-phone transfer |
| A small activity record | On each computer | What switched and when; never sent anywhere |
Visible only when you choose to be.
When you start pairing, Deskwire KVM announces itself on your home network so your phone can find it, and it keeps doing so afterwards so your phone finds that computer again every time you sit down. The announcement carries your computer's name, what kind of computer it is, which version it runs, and a fixed label your phone uses to tell two computers apart — nothing about you. Before your first pairing it's silent, and turning off the network connection in that computer's settings silences it again. Other devices on the same network can see that announcement, and nothing else.
Bluetooth and cable connections are off until you turn them on, and neither is visible without your say-so on both devices.
Checking for new versions
Off by default. If you turn it on, the app asks a web address you choose whether there's a newer version — once a day, sending nothing about you beyond its own version number. It never downloads or installs anything by itself. The phone app has no such check at all.
Licensing (from 2.0)
Activating a license sends your key and an anonymous device ID to our license service, which answers yes or no and quietly renews that answer in the background. That's the only time Deskwire KVM talks to us. The exact details will be spelled out here before 2.0 ships.
Deletion is just removal.
On a computer: uninstall Deskwire KVM and remove its settings folder — the setup guide shows where it lives. That takes the monitor setup, the list of allowed phones and the activity record with it. Nothing else is left behind.
On your phone: remove a computer from the app — which also tells that computer to forget the phone, when it can reach it — or uninstall the app, and everything it held goes with it. There is nothing on our side to ask us to delete.
