Security, in plain words.
Deskwire KVM runs on your desk, next to your work. It's built to need as little of your trust as possible — and to be easy to check. Written by the person who wrote the software.
- Nothing leaves your deskYour phone talks straight to your computers. No account, no cloud, no relay through us.
- You approve every phonePairing means typing a short code shown on the computer's screen. It expires within minutes, allows only a handful of tries, and you can remove any phone later with one tap.
- No administrator password. Ever. Not to install, not to run, not to update — Deskwire KVM itself never asks, on any platform. On Linux and Mac, one small system tool it relies on asks for your password once, when you install that tool.
- Silent until you pairA freshly installed Deskwire KVM doesn't announce itself on your network. It becomes findable the moment you start pairing — and stays findable afterwards so your phone can reach it, until you turn that off.
- Preview modeSee every switch Deskwire KVM would make before you let it make one. Trust is earned in the record, not asked for.
- A record you can readEvery switch is noted on the computer itself — what, when and why — and never sent anywhere.
- Nothing watching youNo analytics, no crash uploads, no tracking. An optional check for new versions stays off until you turn it on.
- Updates, not returnsSoftware can be fixed. If we find a problem, the fix arrives as a free update you install in a minute — not as a return label.
What it defends against — and what it doesn't.
Deskwire secures a desk you already control. It's designed to keep strangers on your network from touching your screens, and to keep your information on your own devices.
It isn't designed to defend against someone who already has full access to your computers or your home network — nothing on your desk is. We'd rather say that plainly than let a marketing page imply otherwise.
For the technically curious
A detailed technical security document — how pairing works, what is stored where, and the choices we made on purpose — is available on request from [email protected]. We keep it off the marketing site deliberately; the product should earn trust by behaviour, not by diagrams.
Found something? Tell us privately.
Email [email protected] with the version, your operating system, how your phone was connected (Wi-Fi or Bluetooth) and how to reproduce it. Please test only on your own computers — everything here runs on your own hardware, so there's no reason not to.
What to expect
One maintainer, no security team, and honest expectations: an acknowledgement within 7 days; an assessment and a fix-or-won't-fix decision within 30 days for anything that lets a stranger in, best effort otherwise. Fixes ship as updates. Credit in the release notes if you want it. There's no bug bounty and none is planned — this is a working discipline, not a contract.
